PayPal Payments Now Available on PengDrop

PengDrop now supports PayPal as a payment method alongside Stripe. Sellers can connect their PayPal account and start receiving payments immediately. Buyers see a seamless PayPal checkout option when purchasing from PayPal-connected sellers — no extra steps, no friction.

Why PayPal Matters

Stripe is a brilliant payment processor, but it is not available everywhere. Sellers in countries like Indonesia, India, Turkey, South Africa, Nigeria, and Brazil could not receive payments on PengDrop before — not because of anything we did, but because Stripe simply does not operate in those regions yet.

That was a problem we wanted to solve. Digital products are created by people all over the world, and a platform that only works for sellers in a handful of countries is not good enough.

PayPal is available in 200+ countries and territories. By adding PayPal support, sellers anywhere in the world can now connect their account and start selling on PengDrop. It does not matter whether Stripe is available in your country or not — if you have a PayPal account, you are good to go.

This also makes PengDrop one of the few platforms offering both Stripe and PayPal as payment options. Gumroad dropped PayPal support a while back. Most newer platforms only offer Stripe. We think giving sellers and buyers more choice is the right approach, not fewer options.

How It Works

Connecting PayPal is a one-click seller onboarding flow. Head to your Dashboard Settings and click "Connect PayPal." You will be redirected to PayPal Partner Referrals to grant the required seller permissions. There are no PengDrop verification codes and no manual API key entry.

From the buyer side, it is just as simple. When someone visits your store and you have PayPal connected, they will see a PayPal checkout option. They click it, log in to PayPal, confirm the payment, and receive their download link. The whole process takes seconds.

If you have both Stripe and PayPal connected, Stripe is used as the default payment method. This is intentional — Stripe supports the widest range of payment methods including Apple Pay, Google Pay, and cards from virtually every country. PayPal serves as an alternative for buyers who prefer it or for sellers who only have PayPal connected.

What changed at a glance

  • Sellers can connect PayPal in Dashboard Settings
  • Buyers pay via PayPal when the seller has PayPal connected
  • Stripe remains the default when both are connected
  • Works for sellers in 200+ countries
  • PayPal orders route to the connected seller PayPal account

What's Next

PayPal seller-routed checkout is now live through PayPal Partner Referrals. That means eligible PayPal orders route to the connected seller PayPal account rather than being held manually by PengDrop.

Beyond that, we are exploring additional payment methods to make PengDrop accessible to even more buyers and sellers around the world. We are also actively building the marketplace and browse page — a central place where buyers can discover products across all PengDrop stores. More on that soon.

Wrapping Up

Adding PayPal support was one of the most requested features since PengDrop launched. It opens up the platform to sellers who were previously locked out, gives buyers a payment method they already trust, and brings PengDrop closer to being a truly global marketplace for digital products.

If you have been waiting for PayPal to start selling, now is the time. Connect your account in your dashboard settings and you are ready to go. And as always, if you have feedback or run into any issues, reach out — we read every message.
